There are moments in life that leave us speechless. Moments that strike us deep in the heart and remind us how fragile life is. The Loss of a beloved animal It's such a moment. For many of us, pets are not "only" Animals – they are family, best friends, soul comforters and sometimes even lifesavers. When they leave, they leave a gap that is often underestimated.
Today I want to share an experience from my Mourning services telling. A story that was especially close to me – anonymized, but full of truth and emotion.
She was more than just a cat.
A few months ago, a woman came to me in the Grief therapy. Let's call her Anna. Anna was in her mid-30s, successful in her job, but since then Death of her cat Lina She felt like she was in an emotional state of emergency. Lina had turned 16 – a gentle, smart soul who had accompanied Anna through ups and downs. Through relationship problems, the loss of her father and even through a severe depressive phase.
Anna told me how Lina came into her life as a small, delicate kitten and evolved over the years to become a constant ally – and how she was able to Lina's death suddenly felt so empty. "She was more than just a cat," she said over and over again. She was my pole of rest in the midst of chaos. But in their surroundings, they found incomprehension. Colleagues said things like, It was just an animal. When will you get a new one? Friends said after three weeks: "You have to get over it now." Even her family couldn’t really understand why she had spent so long. Mourning.
Anna felt alone. She felt she had to hide her grief. At work she smiled even though she broke inside. At home she cried herself to sleep. She felt guilty for not being "strong." And she was afraid that she would never again have such a deep connection with a living being.
Anna's story shows how complex Animal mourning services can be. She struggled not only with her own pain, but also with the pressure from outside. At work, she found it difficult to concentrate. She made mistakes that would never have happened to her otherwise. Privately, she retired because she felt that no one understood her.
Then came the constant question: Can I be so sad? Am I normal? Many people who have Animals loseDoubt their feelings. They compare their Grief for an Animal with the loss of a person and then feel guilty because they think their grief is "not justified". But grief is not comparable – it is simply there. And it deserves respect.

In the Mourning services We worked to help Anna make room for her feelings. We talked about the beautiful moments with Lina, but also about the desire and the The pain of farewell. Anna began to keep a diary in which she wrote letters to Lina. This helped her express her emotions and slowly find peace.
An important step was also to surround themselves with people who had their Animal mourning services understood. Anna found online people who were also a Pets lost They had similar experiences. It made her feel like she wasn’t alone.
Anna’s story is just one of many. It shows how deep the love for an animal can go and how hard the Farewell to the Pet is. If you are grieving yourself, I want to tell you: your feelings are legitimate. You may GriefAs long as you need. It’s okay to cry, be angry, or feel lost.
And if your environment does not understand you, try to find people who do. Maybe there is one near you Grief group for animal ownersOr you can find support online. Grief is not a linear process – it is chaotic and unpredictable. But at some point the chaos becomes smaller and with time milder. Then you can look back and be grateful for the wonderful moments you were allowed to share with your animal friend.
Anna wrote to me recently. She still has days when she misses Lina. But she can think of her now without the pain being overwhelming. She even has a photo of her on her desk – as a reminder that love never ends, even if life does.
If you're Mourning, take your time. Your cat, your dog, your horse – they were unique, and so is your grief. You are not alone.
