Suicide Prevention Campaign Launched by Grief Taskforce

Every day people take their lives. I know how hard it can be to find the appropriate words to talk about suicide.

In difficult times, it is especially important that people experience the support and understanding of others. The word "suicide" can be a considerable burden for many people, both affected and bereaved. It can cause people not to seek help out of fear of stigma or shame.

With my network, which Trauer Taskforce I have the campaign Exchange of words – exchange of words We are created to destigmatize the topic of suicide by beginning to treat those affected respectfully and to help them effectively. The first step is to identify the word "suicide" as problematic, stigmatizing and burdensome and remove it from our language in order to have a respectful dialogue with those who need help.

In addition, we need numerous exchanges and new dialogues for and with people in crises or with suicidal thoughts in order to identify existing grievances, counteract them and find solutions and individual support. We leave no one on the sidelines, not even the bereaved and those affected, and we work to ensure that all voices are heard and that they receive the support they need.

Prevention does not only begin in crises, but much earlier.

Suicide, including causes and consequences, should be the last thing to talk about. not Speak!
