Grief is not just being sad. It means allowing the farewell and getting used to a life with this change step by step. Grief is the price of love, the expression of connectedness. It changes with time, from pain and shock to longing, to memories that at some point carry warmth again. It is not linear, not in phases, but in many moments, with setbacks and moments of light.
Grief is individual. It can show up as deep exhaustion or as inner restlessness, as insomnia, loss of appetite, physical pain or diffuse anxiety. Some people can hardly speak, others need to speak until words calm down. Also, anger, guilt, or the feeling of going crazy are normal reactions to an extraordinary loss.
Grief does not want to be repaired, but understood. Therapeutic accompaniment provides a safe space for understanding, sorting, accepting and getting to know each other in this new world. This is not about letting go, but a new, loving connection to the lost and to find oneself. In the accompaniment we learn to give the sorrow a form and thus also support in our own lives.
