Compassionate Inquiry is an attentive, researching approach developed by Canadian physician Gabor Maté. It is based on the observation that many of our today's symptoms, reactions and patterns of relationship arise from early experiences of pain, adaptation and unconscious self-denial. Compassionate Inquiry invites you to look with compassion at what was necessary at the time to survive, and what impedes today to be alive.The work takes place in conversation, in silence and with fine perception of the body. It creates a safe space where what has been unconsciously controlled can be seen. The aim is not to remove or repair something, but to understand how protection, defence and survival strategies have formed and what they cost today.

How Compassionate Inquiry Works

In joint work, the body is used as a door to experience. Breath, posture, tension and voice become signposts that show how old experiences continue to work in the now. When mindfulness and compassion are added, a deeper understanding can develop. The nervous system is allowed to calm down, old stories lose their power, and inner presence arises.
