Self-esteem describes how much you feel valuable. Self-confidence is confidence in your abilities and actions. Both are closely linked: Stable self-esteem strengthens self-confidence, while true self-assurance in turn nourishes intrinsic value. If this foundation is missing, uncertainty, fear, perfectionism or the feeling of having to prove oneself constantly arise.
Many of our inner voices are not from ourselves. They are old phrases from childhood, school, family or relationships – adopted, never questioned. If these beliefs are unkind or derogatory, they weaken the self-image. Lasting stress, overwhelming, comparisons or emotional injuries can also undermine self-esteem.
Self-worth is learnable. Therapeutic work is about recognizing, testing and lovingly changing obstructive beliefs. Through reflection, new experiences and awareness, a more stable inner foundation is created step by step. One learns to approach oneself with compassion, set limits and no longer make one’s value dependent on performance or approval.
