Gua Shah

Gua Shah
A traditional Chinese massage technique

Gua Shah is an ancient Chinese healing method in which the skin is scraped with a special tool, often made of jade or horn. This technique creates redness, which in traditional Chinese medicine is called "sha". These rednesses are designed to release toxins from the body and restore energy flow (Qi).

How does Gua Sha work?

  • The skin is first oiled with oil or lotion to facilitate the gliding of the tool. The therapist guides the tool in long, slow strokes across the skin. The intensity of the massage can be adjusted individually.
