Depression is a serious mental illness that affects the body, thinking and feeling alike. Typical are drivelessness, depressed mood, sleep disorders, changes in appetite, concentration problems or feelings of guilt. Sometimes the sadness is overwhelming, sometimes it stays out, and the void takes over. There are varying degrees of severity, from mild upsets to severe depressive episodes.
Depression is usually caused by a combination of many factors: genetic predisposition, metabolic changes, stressful life events, chronic stress, losses or unresolved conflicts. It is often preceded by a long period of overwhelming. Hormonal changes or physical diseases can also cause them. Every depression has its own story.
Therapy provides a safe space to sort out thoughts and feelings, develop self-compassion and reconnect with your life. The goal is not to be "happy" immediately, but to regain stability, structure and hope.
